Introduction: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) as a chronic disease causes stress, anxiety, depression and other psychological problems due to reasons such as sudden onset and bad prognosis. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of the effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy on anxiety sensitivity and meta-emotion of women with multiple sclerosis.
Methods: The research design was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the research was all women with multiple sclerosis in Isfahan city in the first six months of 1400. To select the sample size, 30 women with multiple sclerosis were selected using the purposeful sampling method and assigned to the experimental group and the control group (15 people in each group). The data were collected with anxiety sensitivity questionnaires of Floyd (2005) and meta-emotion of Mitmansgruber (2009). Emotion-focused treatment intervention based on the Greenberg and Goldman (2019) protocol was performed on the experimental group in 12 sessions for 60 minutes. The data was analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance test.
Results: The results showed that emotion-focused therapy has a significant effect on reducing anxiety sensitivity(p<0.001). Also, the results showed that emotion-focused therapy has a significant effect on reducing negative meta-emotion(p<0.001).
Conclusion: According to the results of the research, experts, researchers and therapists in this field can use this intervention as an effective treatment option to improve the anxiety sensitivity and meta-emotion of patients with multiple sclerosis.
