The effect of stress inoculation program for nurses in psychiatric ward on their job satisfaction

Introduction:Since stress has affected nurses ‘job satisfaction, preventive and efficient procedure for stress management is necessary to reduce the effects of stress on nurses.
Aim:The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Stress Inoculation Program on nurses’ job satisfaction in a psychiatrichospital.
Method:Sixty nurse and practical nurses who working in Ebne Sina psychiatric hospital were enrolled on research samples of aclinical trial study. They were allocated in two groups randomly.Data gathering tool was Brayfield & Rothe job satisfaction questionnaire which internal consistency reliability (Chronbach’s alpha) in other the same studies was (α=0.93). It was used at thestart intervention, after second training session and one month
after the end of intervention. Intervention group attended a stressInoculation training program which include two workshop (8hours) in two sessions with one weak interval.
Results: Result showed significant increase and a rise trend inmean job satisfaction score of intervention group; 61.5 ± 10.4 in pretest to 67.6±11.6 in posttest and 69.9±6.5 at follow up(p<0.005). The average job satisfaction score in the control groupin posttest and next month follow up have significantly reducedthan pretest (p=0.0000). Also there wasn’t significant differencebetween groups in pretest stage; but the stress inoculation program group score has increased significantly than control group during the post test and next month follow up (p<0.005).
Conclusion:Since Stress inoculation program is an affordableand effective manner to improve nurses’ job satisfaction, it isproposed to use it by nursing managers to enhance nurses’ jobsatisfaction and improve quality of nursing care.
