Introduction: Personal characteristics' nurses in communication between themselves and patients are important, but it is challenge is there any correlation between their social problem solving ability and empathic relationship in CCU.
Aim: This study was done for determining the relationship between nurses' social problems solving ability and their empathy in intensive care units in hospitals of Ardabil provenience.
Methods and Materials: this descriptive-correlational study was done in 2014. The samples were (165) critical care nurses who worked in hospitals of Ardabil provenience. They were selected by multistage cluster in the year (2014). Data gathering was done by questionnaire social problem solving ability (D'zurilla et al, 2002), and empathy scale (La Monica, 2007), that their reliability by α-Chronbach were (0.79 and 0.83) respectively. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regressions in SPSS 17.
Results: The results showed that positive problem solving orientation, logical problem solving style, produce solutions skills (P<0/001) and ability of implementation of solution skills (P<0/05) have a significant positive relationship with empathy. Multiple regression analysis showed that nurses’ empathy of variance is explained respectively 16%, 13% and 17% by positive problem solving orientation, logical problem solving style and produce solutions skills (P <0/001).
Conclusion: Nurse managers would be increased empathy relationship between critical care nurses and patients more than (46%) now, by programming problem-solving skills in-service education.
