Background : Happiness and social responsibility are considered important factors influencing the quality of care, job satisfaction, and professional performance of nurses. Despite the importance of these two variables, limited evidence exists regarding the status of happiness and social responsibility and their association with demographic characteristics among Iranian nurses. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the levels of happiness and social responsibility and examine their relationship with demographic variables among nurses working in hospitals affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This descriptive–analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in 2024 among 240 nurses employed in 14 hospitals affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences, who were selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected over a 6-month period in 2024 using a demographic questionnaire, the Carroll Model–Based Social Responsibility Questionnaire, and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Kruskal–Wallis test, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient in SPSS version 16. Results: The mean age of participants was 33.38 ± 5.12 years, and the mean work experience was 7.19 ± 4.41 years. Most nurses (57.3%) had a moderate level of happiness, whereas the majority (68.2%) demonstrated a low level of social responsibility, and no high-level score was reported. Both variables showed significant associations with certain demographic characteristics, particularly marital status, type of employment, income status and satisfaction with income, age, and work experience (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The studied nurses exhibited a moderate level of happiness and a low level of social responsibility, and these variables were influenced by demographic factors. Organizational and psychological interventions aimed at enhancing happiness and strengthening social responsibility, particularly among at-risk groups, may contribute to improving nurses’ well-being and the quality of care.
